As a first-time special, this year’s 21st edition of the Leipzig 100 km am Auensee race hosted the DUV 100 km Challenge. This was positioned to offer an alternative option to all ultra runners for the German Championships of the DLV cancelled for this year. In addition, championships for the regional associations of Saxonia, Bavaria, and Pfalz were held.
Participation was great. At 6 am sharp, the new race organize, Andre Dreilich, sent off 135 women and men onto the 10 km loop around the Auensee (lake). The night before there had been plenty of rain, so the course was rather moist but offered good footing.
Overall winner, repeating his last year’s success, was Hirofumi Oki from Japan, living in Halle, in 7:19:19 h. Antje Krause from USC Marburg won the women’s race by a wide margin in 8:17:54 h. For Antje, who is also member of the DUV squad, this is a new PB and an improvement of the German 2010 best  posted by her previously.
Another excellent performance was delivered by Renate Hofmann (!.WV Wunstorf). Already last year she ran a new German Age Category Record W70 over 24 hours. With her finishing time of 11:52:43h she not only posted a new German, but also a new World Record in the Age Category Record W70 over 100km.

Female winner Antje Krause Winner Hirfumi Oka
